Epic, the Washington, D.C., region’s freshest acapella female quartet, has announced it has been invited to participate in the Mid-Atlantic Harmony Sweeps Festival and Competition, the event that inspired NBC’s popular show, “The Sing-Off.” Seven acapella groups, ranging in styles from barbershop to gospel to contemporary, will compete February 25 to earn a spot in the national Harmony Sweeps competition, to be held in San Francisco in May.

The Mid-Atlantic Regional Harmony Sweeps contest will take place at the historic Birchmere theater in Alexandria, Va. Doors open at 5 p.m. on February 25 for the 7:30 p.m. show.

Epic, a female acapella quartet specializing in barbershop harmony, will present its diverse and harmonic styling to the Harmony Sweeps audience, along with six other acapella groups. Epic and two other participants are local to the greater Washington, D.C., region. “We are honored and excited about sharing the stage with the other contestants, whose vocal specialties include the genres of pop, jazz, gospel contemporary and more,” says Anne Albright, lead singer for Epic.

“What’s so magical about an event like this is that acapella harmony is so flexible and dynamic that it can reflect so many styles, showcase so many different types of talent and appeal to a variety of audiences,” says Shana Oshiro, Epic’s bass singer. “The Harmony Sweeps event celebrates acapella harmony of many kinds, and we are so excited that Epic has been selected to represent the barbershop style.”

In addition to Epic, groups competing this year are Faithful, Glorious, GQ, Keystone, Loose Interpretations and TBD. The show will be hosted by last year’s regional and national champions, Da Capo—a male quartet from Washington, D.C.

Tickets for the Harmony Sweeps competition typically sell out so show producers are encouraging attendees to purchase tickets early. More information and ticket information is available from Ticketmaster and the Birchmere box office (birchmere.com).
